Coffee scrubs: Skin care on a budget



Coffee has a multitude of benefits to the skin. Ground coffee is packed with antioxidants which helps the skin slow down the aging process. Studies have also found it reduces loss of moisture from the skin and that it protects the skin from the damage of UV-B rays emitted from the sun. Additionally, drinking coffee may make you less likely to develop skin cancer. Here are some of my favorite scrubs that will get rid of dead skin cells and leave you skin feeling smooth


Honey and Coffee scrub

Honey is a humectant with antioxidant, antiseptic an antibacterial properties which help in cleaning oily dirt from your skin pores, reducing the size of your pores and also moisturizing your skin.


You will need:

1/2 cup of freshly ground coffee (the finer the coffee the better)

2-3 tablespoons of honey

2 tablespoons of yoghurt or milk (optional)


Method

Mix the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is one

Apply on your face and any other desired place

Leave for 10 minutes

Gently massage for 2-3 minutes then rinse with luke warm water


Coffee and Aloe vera scrub


Aloe vera is anti-inflammatory with antioxidants, enzymes and Vitamin A and C which not only helps treat burns but also acne and dry skin.


You will need:

1/4 cup of ground coffee

3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel


Method

Mix the ingredients together until a uniform consistency is formed

Apply to face or body

Let it sit for 10 minutes

Massage for 5 minutes and rinse off with luke warm water


Instant coffee and shea butter scrub


Shea butter is rich in fatty acids and vitamins which make it ideal for softening skin. It also contains anti-inflammatory and healing properties that help tone the skin and reduce the appearance of scars.


You will need:

1/2 cup of instant coffee

1/4 cup of yoghurt

1 tablespoon of melted shea butter


Method:

Mix the ingredients together

Apply on face or body

let it sit for 10minutes

Massage for 5 minutes

Rinse it off


P.s: Only use a coffee scrub once a week to avoid abrasions and tears on your skin.
